The Museum of Contemporary Art, Lagos (MOCA Lagos) is a cultural hub and curatorial institution located along the Coastal Highway, Eti-Osa, Lagos. Established in 2018, it serves as a space for exploring interdisciplinary artistic production and addressing local and global social and political issues through the visual arts.

ABOUT MOCA

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Lagos (MOCA, Lagos) uses the visual arts as a point of departure for exploring new and challenging inter disciplinary artistic production. Through exhibitions and public engagement programs, MOCA, Lagos aims to incite dialogues on pressing on local and global social and political issues and fosters a dynamic space for the exploration and continuous evolution of contemporary African art.

Marked its first anniversary show on Saturday, 22nd of June 2019, with different art masterpieces from 10 respected contemporary artists. With the theme ‘Of Things Not Seen’, each artist aptly worked their way through it by stretching imaginations, provoking thoughts and inspiring ideas of what the unknown has to unfold. The exhibition runs till 30th of August 2019.

According to Chima, for MOCA Lagos, it’s been in the concept and ideas for years. He recalled how discussions at several fora and with quite a number of individuals have inspired him to get colleagues for the take off.

As crucial as a Contemporary Museum is to the growing energy of Art, its emergence is of no doubt we recon as a center that promotes the aesthetic history of Art and Culture.
